Tiny insects roaming around the house might not seem like much of a problem, but they do pose a threat to us and our properties. An infestation of such pests can lead to the destruction of the objects they infest, and can also deteriorate your, and your family's health.
Pest
Any animal or plant which can be deleterious to humans or human property, like crops, livestock and man-made objects, is considered as a pest. Many of the pest animals (insects mainly) act as the vector agents of transmitting disease, and the most relatable common example is of the Black Death, also called the Great Bubonic Plague. The bacteria (Yersinia Pestis) that caused plague at that time were found in the infected rodents, and the Oriental rat flea was the vector for this disease which transmitted it from the infected rodents to the humans, by biting.

Almost one-third of the population of Europe was eradicated because of this pest spread pandemic. Diseases that require a vector, mostly insects, for its transmission are called vector-borne diseases. In the contemporary UK, there are many vector-borne diseases present that have a devastating effect on human lives. There are pest control products Leicester that can prevent those effects of pests. Below mentioned are some vector (insects and ticks) borne diseases:
Cat scratch disease: Cats are common pets we usually see in households. They are gentle and friendly creatures and prove to be a good company in the time of loneliness. However, they can make you sick if your cat is infected by a specific bacteria, Bartonella Henselae. A scratch or bite from a cat infected by this bacteria can lead to the formation of bumps or blisters at the site of the injury, and also painful inflammation of lymph nodes is common in it. Usually, the symptoms of the disease resolve on its own after a month but in rare cases symptoms can get worse and could be lethal. Now many of you would be thinking, how this disease is insect-borne? Because the bacteria that causes this disease isn't originally present in cats, it is transmitted to the cats by a flea, commonly known as the cat flea. In cat scratch diseases, cats serve as a primary host for the disease, and later transmitting it to the secondary host of the disease, humans.
Thelaziasis: In common terms, it is called eye worm infestation, which is caused by the nematode 'Thelazia Callipaeda.' It is carried by the flies (like a muscid fly) that feed on the tears, in which the disease-causing nematode's eggs are present. After ingesting those eggs, the eggs hatch and move to the head of the fly, from there they are transferred to the host, cats, dogs or humans when feeding on their tears. Common symptoms of this disease are excess watering, visual impairment and scarring of the cornea. Diagnosis of this disease is to find the worm in the eye or its surrounding. The treatment of this disease includes the simple removal of the worm from the eye.
Leishmaniasis: This disease is caused by a protozoan, Leishmania. The vector of this disease, female sandfly, infects the host through a bite. The cycle of this parasite starts from an infected vector, from where these protozoa are transmitted to the host and multiplies in number in the bloodstream. Later these grown in number protozoa are ingested by another sandfly, hence completing their lifecycle. The main symptom of this is the skin sores, which usually erupts after weeks or a few months from the bite of the sandfly. An enlarged spleen is another symptom of Leishmaniasis, which isn't easily detectable during an abdominal examination. Diagnosis of the disease is done by taking blood samples.
Lyme disease: This disease is caused by Borrelia bacteria, which is spread by the ticks. Biting is the mode of transfer, red rashes appear at the site of the tick bite. The area affected with the rashes expands with time, the rashes are neither painful nor itchy. There are many other symptoms besides rashes, like fever, tiredness, which can be experienced when infected by it. If it isn't treated, then symptoms can be severe like the joints pain, severe headache, or loss of ability to move the area affected by rashes. About 65,000 people in Europe are affected by this problem every year. The cases of this disease are common during early summer and spring. Antibiotics are a common method of treatment in Lyme disease.
Besides causing diseases, pests can also damage your property, one of the best examples of it is, termites. These tiny little attackers can easily go unseen, even though they are always found in large numbers. The worst thing about the termites is that they can be anywhere, could be in the walls of your house, backyard or your house furniture. Drywood termites infestation is common in the UK, they look like tiny little white ants, crawling through wood and eating it. One problematic thing about an infestation of termites is that they are discovered only after they have done considerable damage. The damage done by these pests can cost a lot for repairs or for buying a new set of furniture. There are many other pests like rodents, bugs, Wasps, and others that must be taken care of.
To avoid diseases and damages caused by the pests, you can try pest control products Leicester. There are many pest control products available in the market, which target a specific group of pests, like moth killer kit, bed bug treatment kit, glue trap for rodents, and many more.
